Assessment

Assessment

The internship assessment is a competence assessment. More information can be found here.
During the internship assessment, the following aspects are taken into account:

The teacher coach functions as the first examiner in assessing your internship, so keeping them informed is important. By the end of the semester, on the date mentioned in the year planning, you have to hand in your internship report, individual reflection and plan the oral exam. Participation within the Demo Day is not required. A presentation at/for the company is optional.

Teacher coach meetings

You should plan about three to four teacher coach meetings during the internship.

The Department suggests that the first meeting takes place one or two weeks after the start of the internship, the second about half way through (this meeting or the next one should be with both company and teacher coach), the third (and if deemed necessary the fourth)towards the end of the internship to ensure the assignment and deliverables are aligned with our academic and company goals. At least one meeting should take place with both coaches present.

In these meetings you will discuss your progress, the assignment you are developing and how your internship relates to your personal development. Prepare well in advance to ensure the meetings are relevant and contribute to your development.

Apart from being a valuable moment for verbal feedback, the teacher coach meetings allow the teacher coach and company coach to exchange impressions (preferably in person, via a company or TU/e visit, or via an online meeting).

Verdicts

Verdicts

After the oral exam, the verdict will be discussed. There are four options:

  • Hold (H): you will receive an H-verdict when the design/research process in the internship is insufficient and/or the integration of the expertise areas within the internship is not addressed. An H-verdict means that you have to repeat the first semester of the third year, do not get the credits and have to choose another learning activity in order to pass the semester and continue with your final bachelor project. Take into account that you have to pass all compulsory courses before starting your final bachelor project. Some of the courses in the curriculum might overlap your (new) planned internship, exchange or minor. If you do not agree with the verdict, you can send an objection to the Examination Committee after consulting your study advisor.
  • Conditional Hold (C): if the internship report with the content as described, is of insufficient quality, this will result in a C-verdict. You will be required to make changes to the report and improve the quality before the deadline (within three weeks) as communicated within the C-verdict by the examiner(s). The result deadline is three weeks after you have received the verdict. The examiner(s) will decide the final verdict for your internship after retake submission.
  • Promotion (P): you will get promoted to the next semester without any further remarks; you will receive full credits as described below.
  • Promotion with excellence (E): in special occasions the examiners can decide to give an E verdict. This only occurs when you show an excellent growth, an outstanding performance in your internship and have a good till excellent competency development.

Credits

If you started your Bachelor before 2015/2016, you will be credited 30 ECTS for your Internship after receiving a P or P+E verdict. The generation of students who started in 2015/2016 or after, will receive 25 ECTS for their Internship when they have passed the semester – and will be credited 5 ECTS for DPB380 Professional Identity and Vision.
