Design science perspectives on innovation & entrepreneurship research – 6 ECTS
The PhD course provides participants with in-depth knowledge of Design Science (DS) approaches in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. The main objective is that doctoral students become familiar with and develop an in-depth understanding of the key frameworks, concepts, models, and paradigms that collectively form the DS foundation for research in this field. In addition, participants learn how to review DS-based articles and how to publish work informed by DS in top journals in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. This PhD course will also offer opportunities for a limited number of participants to present and get feedback on papers or dissertation proposals.

User perspectives on design – 1.5 ECTS
Engineers design and develop products and systems that may affect people and their lives in many different ways. Taking a user perspective early in the design process can help engineers to consider and anticipate the possible implications of particular design choices for a range of different users so as to mitigate technologies’ risks and enhance their potential. This 5-day course introduces students to user-centered design approaches, theories and methods to gain an understanding of user practices and experiences, and to help students empathize with different user perspectives first-hand. Through a combination of readings, discussions and hands-on assignments, students will learn how to put theoretical and methodological understandings about users into design practice. Insights from readings across design, the social sciences, and beyond will be applied by engaging actual users in a small design exercise.

Creativity in problem tackling – 1.5 ECTS
Boosting creativity and outside the box thinking is important in design practice, while flexibility and responsiveness are required when dealing with industrial clients. This course offers tools and training to acquire these virtues.
