Student guidance

At Mechanical Engineering we find it important that you get the right support and guidance during your studies. Throughout your bachelor program you will get support and guidance from different people in different roles.

The academic advisor is your first point of contact for all study related questions and problems, such as discussing your study progress, questions about your planning, your elective space and study methods, or doubts about your program. You can also contact the Academic Advisor about study delays due to personal circumstances or other health issues, which may affect your study progress.

An academic advisor is not linked to a particular project or course but guides you with all aspects of your study program. This is done in a personal meeting, for which both you and the academic advisor can take the initiative. You can schedule a meeting with one of the academic advisors of the bachelor program ME via Bookings. The conversations are confidential. 

If necessary, the academic advisor can refer you to a student psychologist, student counselor, a study management advisor or study choice advisor. Also see ‘Student guidance, who to contact’.
In addition to individual help or meetings, it is also possible to take part in specific group training sessions in the field of study management and personal development.

First-year bachelor students will get a student mentor to help them get settled in.
You can reach out to your student mentor for all your practical questions. The transition from high school to university requires a different study approach and your student mentor will help you to get acquainted with studying at TU/e. You can discuss planning and study management with your mentor, but also discuss choosing electives. You will be guided in a group with other first year students, so it is also the perfect opportunity to get to know your fellow students. All student mentors are senior Mechanical Engineering bachelor students who know the program well and can answer most of your questions.

From quartile 2 onwards teacher coach meetings are held for all first-year bachelor students. Each quartile you will have a meeting with a teacher coach from one of the three divisions of Mechanical Engineering together with your student mentor group.
The teacher coaches will elaborate on their work and research fields during these meetings, and you can ask questions.  At the end of the first year, you will hopefully have gained more insight into the different fields of Mechanical Engineering.
In the second year of the program, you will reflect on your own interests, after having a conversation with an alumni coach and peer review sessions with fellow students.
In year 3, you will be invited to a (group) meeting with a Mechanical Engineering professor, and coaching will focus on your future as an engineer.
