Dual Degree Program KAIST
Dual Degree Program in Industrial and Systems Engineering between Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).
TU/e students in the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences, who have finished at least their first semester in the Master Program of the Graduate School of Industrial Engineering can apply. Such students must be well-versed in the English language, as demonstrated by the TOEIC (a minimum of 800 points), TOEFL (a minimum of 87 points in the TOEFL Internet-based Test (567 pbt, 87 ibt)) or equivalent test.
Up to three students are to be accepted by the host institute per year. The period of stay at the host university shall not exceed one and a half years in principle.
TU/e students must complete the following coursework and research work. For TU/e students who visit KAIST, after entrance to the TU/e OML MSc graduate program, they will
Spend 3 semesters in residence at TU/e, where they will obtain:
- 10 ECTS of compulsory coursework
- 20 ECTS of elective courses from 'track core' courses list
- 15 ECTS of elective courses from 'specialization electives' list
- 15 ECTS of free electives
- 30 ECTS of Master's thesis work
- While in residence at either TU/e or KAIST, the student must earn 5 ECTS from TU/e for the Literature Review.
Spend 2 semesters in residence at KAIST, where they will obtain:
- 3 credits of mandatory general coursework at KAIST
- 1 AU (Activity Unit) of mandatory general coursework at KAIST
- 12 credits of elective coursework at KAIST: A minimum of 9 credits should be earned from the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (their subject code will begin with IE). A maximum of 6 credits can be earned from courses with a subject code of 400 level or below. Courses of 400 level or below which are not mutually recognized for bachelor's or master's programs must be approved by the academic advisor and IE department head. At most 3 credits of "IE801 Special Topics in Industrial Engineering II" can be earned as elective coursework.
- 1 credit of IE966 Seminar in M.S. (or HSS586 for foreign students) at KAIST
MSc Thesis: Students must prepare a Master Thesis at their home university in their final semester of the program. TU/e students must take 5 ECTS for the Literature Review and 30 ECTS of research for the Master Thesis and submit their Thesis to TU/e. The (single) thesis that the student prepares must pass the Master's Thesis Examination at the home university. The host university will consider if this thesis - prepared at the home university - fulfills their thesis requirements, provided it is accepted at the home university. There has to be thesis supervisors from both universities; The supervisor from the home university has to be the main advisor.
After successful completion of the complete program at both institutes the students will receive the Master of Science degrees from KAIST and TU/e.
