Project 1: Design
Contrary to courses and electives, which typically focus on the development of Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge in individual Expertise Areas (EAs), projects are aimed at the integration of EAs into meaningful and valuable designs.
In Project 1 the focus lies on the EAs Creativity & Aesthetics (C&A) and User & Society (U&S). Within C&A the emphasis in the first Quartile will be on the Creativity aspects of designing, while in the second quartile the focus will shift more towards Aesthetics. As for U&S, Q1 will have a focus on mapping out the socio-cultural context of your design to support and scope the creative design process, while Q2 leaves room to apply what will have learned in the Q1 basic course DBB200 Human-Centred Design.
Project 1 consists of various learning activities, including lectures, instructions, discussions, workshops, individual and group work, and coach meetings.
All student teams in Project 1 start from the same design brief. The brief is on the one hand very open but also comes with restrictions. It is up to you to explore the brief with your team and to determine the exact direction in which you want to take your design.
The assessment of Project 1 will consist of:
-
Midterm presentations;
-
Participation during the Demo Day;
-
A report and reflection.
Project 1 is assessed via a competence assessment.
More information can be found on the studyguide on Canvas.
Demo Day
At the end of your project you will present your work in an exhibition-like setting: the Demo day. The demo day is a moment for formative feedback from your examiner(s), and part of your project assessment (obliged).
