This page explains the general rules of the pre-master IST.
Study Progress Requirement
The pre-master is a one-year program. Students are required to finish all of their assigned pre-master courses within one academic year. Exceptions may be possible if a student experiences study delay due to personal circumstances or functional impairment. If a student has study delay, or already knows in advance that their circumstances will prevent them from completing the program in one year, they should contact the Academic Advisor as soon as possible (see contact info in “Academic Advisor” tab).
Completing the pre-master
Successful completion of the pre-master IST program grants admission only to the corresponding master program: the IST Master at TU/e. Students are not awarded a diploma or certificate after successfully completing the pre-master. Rather, they are simply granted access to the corresponding master program.
Courses
Pre-master students are only allowed to register for courses that are part of their assigned pre-master curriculum. However, there can be an exception to this: some students might be eligible to take up to three master-level courses (with a maximum of 15 credits in total) during their enrollment in the pre-master. This should be discussed on time with the Academic Advisor of the pre-master, who will guide you on submitting the request to the Examination Committee. Examination Committee approval is required in advance to follow the master-level courses.
Here is essential information relating to taking Master-level courses during the pre-master:
- Students following a pre-master program that can be completed within 6 months (2 quarters) are not eligible.
- Student must have completed at least 15 credits of their assigned pre-master curriculum by the time they take the master-level course.
- Maximum of 15 credits of master study components can be taken.
- This should be discussed with the Academic Advisor before the student submits a request to the Exam Committee. (See “Academic Advisor” tab for contact info.)
It is not allowed to take extra bachelor-level courses outside of your assigned curriculum during your enrollment in the pre-master.
