Specializations

Specialization

The domain of Sustainable Energy Technology covers a number of specializations. The multidisciplinary specializations are organized in six profiles, which are aligned with the focus areas of the Eindhoven Institute for Renewable Energy Systems (EIRES):

  1. Chemistry for sustainable energy systems
  2. Engineering for sustainable energy systems
  3. Systems for sustainable heat
  4. Electrical power systems
  5. Application in the built environment
  6. Energy & society

Profiles 1. 2. And 3. are related to sources, fuels & storage and profiles 4. 5. and 6. are related to system integration.

The profiles help students choosing their specialization. Students should be able to follow different paths and develop different expertise profiles within their individual program. The profiles mentioned above are created to guide and assist students in choosing their specialization and courses and do not form any formal tracks within the SET program. They are suggestions and not mandatory.

Important note: Master Allocation Procedure

Within the department of Mechanical Engineering a Master Allocation Procedure is implemented to assign students to the sections of this department. Since the Mechanical Engineering department coordinates the Master’s Program SET and different sections from the Mechanical Engineering Department are involved in the SET Master’s Program, this allocation procedure will (in) directly affect students who would like to perform their thesis work in one of the SET sections.

Profiles & sections

Sections involved in the SET Master’s program are connected to one or more of the profiles (see the presentation 'profiles SET' under downloads).

Students can check out the specialization options within each profile and the sections involved. On their websites (see overview below) sections present all research areas they cover. Please note that not all research topics in each section are necessarily relevant to SET. The sections are autonomous, and are also involved in other programs. In the download menu you can find a presentation of each section, covering only relevant SET research areas.

In the first quarter  (September 11th, 2023) you will be informed further about the specializations, the master allocation procedure and the sections will present themselves.
