Competence assessment
At the conclusion of your final bachelor project, your final competence assessment takes place. You will be assessed on your ability to integrate different competencies. During the assessment your overall competence of design demonstrated in the quality of the deliverables, your scientific and professional skills, your professional identity and vision and your development with respect to the expertise areas are evaluated.
At the end of your final bachelor project you reflect on your overall competence of design and demonstrate you have achieved the required level of development in the expected competencies. These are described in the Rubrics booklet which you can find on the Forms and Files page.
You include a comprehensive reflection on your professional identity and provide your vision on design. In contrast to other project assessments, you will need to provide sufficient evidence in your portfolio of your achievements in the courses you have completed. You can support your achievements with appropriate extra-curricular activities such as exhibitions, awards, accepted papers, project management or a successful start-up or crowd-sourcing activity.
During the (public) presentation your first and second examiner, (respectively your project coach and an examiner from another squad), will be present. Together, they determine the level of development you have achieved on the different elements described in the final bachelor project rubrics.
Deliverables
The assessment is based on the deliverables:
- Demonstrator (as demonstrated on the Demo Day)
- Report
- Portfolio
- Presentation and oral exam
The expected levels of the deliverables are also defined in the Final Bachelor Project rubrics. You can find these in the Rubrics booklet on the Forms and Files page.
The corresponding deadlines for the above-mentioned deliverables can be found in the Year Planning on the Forms and Files page, on the separate deliverables pages you can find information on how to hand in each deliverable.
Grades
Grades for the final bachelor project are confirmed during the plenary graduation meeting. Assessors fill-out the rubric and provide an evaluation for each topic prior to the meeting. During the meeting examiners deliberate on the grades to achieve consensus on their distribution. At the end of your final bachelor project you receive a grade rounded to the nearest half grade on a scale of 1-10.
Retake
Students pass the FBP if the final grade is a 6.0 or higher.
The student may only do a retake when the student has received a sufficient assessment for the criterion design and research processes. The first and second examiner discuss and decide on the feasibility of doing a retake. The first examiner will clearly describe the conditions for passing the FBP with a retake, which students can find in the feedback in the Rubrics of the original FBP assignment on the DPB390 Canvas page. The deadline for the retake assignment will be three weeks after the initial result has been published in Osiris.
Addtionally, the student is required to hand in the Delivery Form and TUe Declaration of Scientific Conduct again in the respective Canvas assignments for this on Canvas page DPB390, since the retake files are in need of being archived (and published in case of a regular retake. Retake's with an NDA are not published.)
In the second semester of an academic year, the plenary graduation meeting (during which the final grade will be discussed and determined) will take place at the end of August.
