Competence assessment
At the conclusion of your final bachelor project, your final competence assessment takes place. You will be assessed on your ability to integrate different competencies. During the assessment your overall competence of design demonstrated in the quality of the deliverables, your scientific and professional skills, your professional identity and vision and your development with respect to the expertise areas are evaluated.
At the end of your final bachelor project you reflect on your overall competence of design and demonstrate you have achieved the required level of development in the expected competencies. These are described in the Rubrics booklet which you can find on the Forms and Files page.
You include a comprehensive reflection on your professional identity and provide your vision on design. In contrast to other project assessments, you will need to provide sufficient evidence in your portfolio of your achievements in the courses you have completed. You can support your achievements with appropriate extra-curricular activities such as exhibitions, awards, accepted papers, project management or a successful start-up or crowd-sourcing activity.
During the (public) presentation your first and second examiner, (respectively your project coach and an examiner from another squad), will be present. Together, they determine the level of development you have achieved on the different elements described in the final bachelor project rubrics.
Deliverables
The assessment is based on the deliverables:
- Demonstrator (as demonstrated on the Demo Day)
- Report
- Portfolio
- Presentation and oral exam
The expected levels of the deliverables are also defined in the Final Bachelor Project rubrics. You can find these in the Rubrics booklet on the Forms and Files page.
The corresponding deadlines for the above-mentioned deliverables can be found in the Year Planning on the Forms and Files page, on the separate deliverables pages you can find information on how to hand in each deliverable.
Grades
This year (AY 2024-2025) there is a new implementation of the plenary meetings to determine the grades. Two plenary meetings are organized once all regular FBP meetings have finalized: One for low grades (6 or lower) and grades where there is doubt or disagreement in the panel, the other for high grades (8.5 or higher; if doubt or disagreement concerns a grade in the range of 8-8.5 it goes to the high plenary). The daily plenary meetings have been cancelled.
In case the panel comes to a grade of 6.5 or 8 or in between, and there is no doubt about the grade, the verdict registration form is filled in immediately and there is no need for an extra signature of the chair of a plenary (For examiners: please use the tick box on the verdict registration form).
Retake
When a student has received a grade between 4.00-5.49, the student has not received a sufficient assessment on all criteria. The student can do a retake when the student has received a sufficient assessment for the criterion design and research process. The first examiner advises on the feasibility of doing a retake after consulting with the second examiner. If the student accepts the retake, the examiner should clearly describe the conditions for receiving a P, which will happen in the respective retake assignment in Canvas on the Canvas page DPB390. The retake has a time-limit of three weeks. Addtionally, the student is required to hand in the Delivery Form and TUe Declaration of Scientific Conduct again in the respective Canvas assignments for this on Canvas page DPB390, since the retake files are in need of being archived (and published in case of a regular retake. Retake's with an NDA are not published.)
In the second semester of an academic year, a retake is also possible in the interim period (see TU/e Academic Year Agenda). The final grade will be discussed in the next plenary graduation meeting planned. In semester 2 this will take place on a date at the end of August.
A retake can take the form of rewritten report, an improved demonstrator and/or meeting with the first and second examiner. Your project coach will inform you about your retake requirements through mentioning the retake conditions in the respective Canvas assignment. on Canvas page DPB390
