Skills development

Why skill development?

Skill Development means developing yourself and your skill sets to add value to yourself, the project you are working on or your (future) job. Your technical skills will be mainly developed during your study and projects. As you are (in somesort of way) working with other people, just technical skills aren't sufficient. You also need the so called "soft skills" or "professional skills" to be successful in your study, at the workplace and your daily life. Fostering an attitude of appreciation for lifelong learning is the key to future workplace success.

Various companies that are especially interested in TU/e students have emphasized the importance of professional skills. In the high-performance workplaces of today, people need to be able to present themselves, to be creative, to show (self) leadership and to adopt an entrepreneurial attitude towards their work and their lives. Therefore, professional skills such as presentation skills, teamwork skills and writing skills are more important than ever. Furthermore, young professionals need to bring more to the table than their technical knowledge and an engineering degree.

It is the ambition of the TU/e to support students with their professional skills development. Naturally, TU/e Career Academy highly recommends working on your professional skills set as well. The TU/e skillslab helps you with developing these skills to a higher level. TU/e skillslab provides online learning material as well as workshops in collaboration with study associations. Visit the TU/e skillslab website for more information and access to the online learning materials.
